Five teenagers have been arrested by the police on charges of gang raping a minor girl in Guwahati on Tuesday. The arrests came following a first information report lodged by the victim’s parents at the Basistha police station.
A senior city police official informed that five teenage (12 to 15 years of age) boys from the Chandan Nagar area had drugged a minor girl from the neighbourhood and confined her to an abandoned hut in the locality and raped her on the night of September 14.
The incident came to light only when the girl who remained missing since Saturday evening, informed her parents about the rape on September 15.
Her father, a daily wage earner, then approached the police. The accused were arrested within few hours while the incident site was thoroughly searched for evidence. All the accused and the victim were subjected to medical examination.
The accused have been remanded to Boko Juvenile Home in Guwahati. The victim has been lodged at a shelter home at Jalukbari.
The Guwahati senior superintendent of police informed that the trial would be conducted in a fast track court.
