The fate of slain teenager Arushi Talwar's mother Nupur Talwar will be declared on March 18.
Reserving its verdict on her plea against being summoned by the lower court as the 'co-accused' along with her husband Rajesh Talwar in their own daughter's murder in Noida three years ago, the Allahabad high court on Tuesday concluded hearing arguments put up on behalf of the parents as well as the Central Bureau of Investigation.
Nupur's counsel senior advocate Gopal Chaturvedi sought to emphasise that since she was never summoned by the court all along and that even
the CBI closure report did not include her as an accused, the special
court in Ghaziabad had no business to name her as a co-accused at this
juncture.
The CBI, on the other hand, claimed before that they had 'sufficient circumstantial evidence' to establish that Arushi Talwar was killed by none other than her father Rajesh Talwar after he caught her in a compromising position with the domestic help Hemraj, who was also bludgeoned to death by him.
The investigation agency, however, sought to charge Arushi's mother Nupur of assisting her husband in 'destroying all evidence.'
Fourteen-year old Arushi Talwar was murdered brutally in her Noida flat in May, 2008, while her servant Hemraj was also simultaneously bludgeoned to death in another part of the house.
After months of investigation and public debate, CBI named Arushi's father Dr. Rajesh Talwar, a well known Noida dentist, as the main accused.
However, CBI submitted its closure report earlier this month, without arriving at any concrete conclusion. Yet it sought to frame charges
against both the parents.
