Army chief visits forward areas in Jammu

Army Chief General Dalbir Singh Suhag on Tuesday visited the forward areas in Rajouri and Jammu districts and reviewed the overall security situation in the region.

"Gen Singh visited Nagrota on his visit south of Pir Panjal range. The chief was received by GOC White Knight Corps Lt Gen K H Singh who later briefed him in detail on the security situation in the area and the proactive and effective security cover put up by the formations and units of the corps," an army officer said.

The army chief appreciated the steadfastness and alacrity with which the men were undertaking their mission at the Line f Control and fighting terrorists at the hinterland, he said.

He visited the forward areas of Rajouri, Kalal and Sunderbani along the LoC and met the security personnel, exhorting them to refine their battle skills.

He appreciated the high level of morale and motivation of he soldiers and praised the tight security cover established n the zone.

The army chief also visited Tanda in Akhnoor for a felicitation ceremony organised by 18th Cavalry Regiment.

In the last 172 years, the regiment has performed with distinction in various battles in France, North Africa, Egypt, Iraq, Palestine, Afghanistan, Burma and subsequently during both the World Wars, the officer said.

Post independence, the regiment fought gallant action in the Sialkot in Pakistan and Sri Ganganagar sector during 1965 and 1971 Indo-Pak wars respectively. The regiment has achieved distinguished record of being awarded 29 battle honours, he added.

The prestigious ceremony, attended by many distinguished veterans, concluded with the presentation of lance and baton to the army chief by Lt Gen Praveen Bakshi, VSM, Chief of Staff Northern Command.
