Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president D Srinivas has welcomed Praja Rajyam chief K Chiranjeevi's assurance on extending his party's support to the Congress government in the state if the situation demanded.

"I welcome this and appreciate Chiranjeevi for coming out with such an assurance," Srinivas told mediaperons at the Gandhi Bhavan in Hyderabad on Thursday.

The PCC chief praised PRP president saying, "From an acclaimed actor, Chiranjeevi has metamorphosed into a matured politician. He has been making his political statements these days with a lot of maturity."

It may be recalled that Chiranjeevi promised to extend the support of his party's 18 MLAs in case the ruling Congress suffered a split and threat to the Rosaiah government.

"We shall ensure that people of the state are not overburdened with another election because of the political turn of events," Chiranjeevi said, in an oblique reference to speculation that Kadapa MP Y S Jaganmohan Reddy might break the Congress in Andhra Pradesh since he was denied the chief minister's post.

Incidentally, Srinivas indirectly snubbed actor Rajasekhar and his wife Jeevita for levelling a series of allegations recently against Chiranjeevi's blood bank affairs.

"If anyone has any complaints in this regard, they can approach the appropriate authorities. But they should not go in public with the allegations," Srinivas added.

Meanwhile, the PCC is gearing up to organise the first death anniversary of former Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy on September 2 on a massive scale.

"The death anniversary will be observed by the party in all the districts across the state. A programme will be organised in the state party headquarters as well," Srinivas said.

He reviewed the programme with ministers Danam Nagender, Mukesh Goud and office-bearers of PCC in Hyderabad on Thursday.
