Anticipating early LS poll, Jayalalithaa wins over Vaiko

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Tuesday met Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam leader V Gopalswamy, aka vaiko, to greet him for his ‘Madhuvilakku Nadaipayanam’ (anti-alcohol march supporting prohibition) at OMR road in Chennai.

Observers say the one on one meeting, lasting 15 minutes, is significant from the forecast of early Lok Sabha polls, as Jaya’s party the All India Anna DMK is ready to offer two Lok Sabha seats to Vaiko.

Such a quick initiative on the part of Jayalalithaa also sends a strong message to the Dr S Ramadoss’s Pattali Makkal Katchi, her former electoral ally.

Analysts point out that by winning over her former ally Vijayakanth of the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam, DMK’s M Karunanidhi believes that the DMK-Congress alliance will prove to be a formidable combination in Tamil Nadu.

But Jayalalithaa seems to have neutralised such buzz by pocketing Vaiko to her side.
