A farmer attempted to commit suicide in Kadapa on Wednesday by jumping from a two-storyed building opposing creation of Telangana out of the state of Andhra Pradesh.

Byreddy Byyapu Reddy, a farmer from J Kottalapalli in Jammulamadugu constituency, jumped from a building at 6.45 pm shouting "Jai Samakhyandhra" and fell on the road below, after which people rushed the seriously injured to a government hospital in the town.

Doctors, who attended on him, said he was seriously injured and chances of his survival are "fifty-fifty". He is likely to be shifted to another hospital for better treatment. YSR Congress member of Legislative Council D Narayana Reddy and former Telugu Desam Member of Legislative Assembly Ramasubba Reddy went to the hospital to see him.

Sources said the farmer had arrived from his village and had been actively participating in agitations since the bifurcation announcement by Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh on July 30.

Meanwhile, a case has been registered by the Jammulamadugu police.
