The father-son duo from Pakistan, arrested in Italy for allegedly managing money transfer for communication links of the Mumbai terror attackers, had a Red Corner Notice issued against them by Interpol for suspected involvement.

Highly placed official sources said that the two were in the list of suspects in the Mumbai attacks and the Red Corner Notice was issued after the last year's strikes.

They said Mohammad Yaqub Janjua and his son Aamer Yaqub had fled from Italy to Pakistan after the attacks, but returned recently, perhaps overconfident that they had not been tracked.

Both Mohammad and Yaqub were untraceable since November last year and were declared as absconders, the sources said.

The sources said terror suspects David Headley and Tahawwur Rana, who were arrested by the Federal Bureau of Investigation in the US, may not know the duo arrested in Italy though they could be part of the larger plot of Mumbai terror attacks.

Referring to Headley's antecedents, the sources said Headley's father was a civil servant and currently lives in Pakistan.

Sources said India is likely to press for the extradition of the arrested father-son duo from Italy to get more information from them about the Mumbai terror attacks, which claimed 183 lives, and try them here for the crime.

Though India and Italy do not have any extradition treaty, both the countries have 'extradition arrangement' between them under which the duo could be brought to India, the sources said.
