The Manmohan Singh government has decided to send Ronen Sen as its ambassador to the US.
Former foreign secretary Kanwal Sibal will be the country's ambassador to Russia and Kamlesh Sharma will be the next high commissioner to the United Kingdom.
India's High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Nirupam Sen will be the country's permanent representative at the United Nations. He will succeed Vijay K Nambiar.
Official sources said President A P J Abdul Kalam has given his approval to these postings. An official announcement will be made after concurrence comes from the respective governments to the agreements sent by New Delhi.
The President will then issue
letters to these diplomats for presenting their credentials in the respective countries.
Ronen Sen, 1966 batch IFS officer, retired recently as India's high commissioner in London. Sen, who served in Rajiv Gandhi's office when the latter was the prime minister, has headed Indian missions in Mexico, Bonn/Berlin and London.
Sharma, who is currently the UN secretary general's special representative to East Timor, retired as India's permanent representative to the UN in New York.
Sibal succeeds another former foreign secretary, K Raghunath, in Moscow. Raghunath's term comes to an end in August this year. Sibal is the brother of Union Science and Technology Minister Kapil Sibal.
