A former airhostess with Kanda's now defunct MDLR airline, 23-year-old Geetika Sharma allegedly committed suicide on Sunday and in her suicide note had accused the former Haryana minister and MDLR official Aruna Chaddha of harassing her.
The family demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation inquiry into the case and wanted the former minister to be arrested soon. "We have issued notices to Chaddha and another colleague Ankit Alhuwalia to join the probe. Alhuwalia's name cropped up during investigations," P Karunakaran, deputy commissioner of police (north-west), told reporters.
The police have registered a case of abetment to suicide against Kanda and Chaddha on the basis of the suicide note.
Asked why they were not issuing notice to Kanda, he said, "As of now there is no evidence (to link him with the incident). As and when some evidence crops up, we will do what has to be done."
Asked why the police was not arresting the former minister, he said, "We can't say that and when there is evidence, we will do whatever is needed."
He said the investigation is progressing based on the evidence collected besides the suicide note, which was recovered from the spot on Sunday.
Geetika's mobile phone, laptop and a few other articles have been seized, he said, adding the victim's family has been provided with security. Police is awaiting the post mortem report, he said.
Geetika's brother Ankit said they want justice and demanded a CBI probe into the case.
"My sister called me on Sunday at 1:15 am and told me that Kanda and Chaddha were driving her mad. She just said this line. She was afraid that Kanda will harm us," Ankit told reporters.
