Afghan President to pay three-day state visit to India

Afghan President Dr Mohammad Ashraf Ghani will be paying a three-day state visit to India beginning on Monday, during which he would meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and attend delegation-level talks.

The Afghan President will arrive at the Air Force Station in Palam at around 8 pm. There will be a ceremonial reception in honour of the visiting dignitary at 9 am on Tuesday after which he would lay a wreath at Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi's samadhi at the Rajghat.

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj would then call on the Afghan president. The visiting dignitary would then meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Hyderabad House here at around 11:35 am.

After the meeting, delegation-level talks between both sides would take place at the Hyderabad House. This would be followed by the media statements.

Minister of State (IC) of Commerce and Industry Nirmala Sitharaman would call on the Afghan President at 3 pm. This would be followed by a call by Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar.

Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari would call on the Afghan president at 4 pm. Union Health and Family Welfare Minister JP Nadda would call on Dr Ghani at 4.30 pm.

The visiting dignitary would then speak at the Indian Council of World Affairs Research Centre at around 6 pm.

Later in the evening, the Afghan President would meet President Pranab Mukherjee at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Dr Ghani would on Wednesday meet with FICCI, CII and ASSOCHAM representatives. The Afghan President would depart from the Air Force Station in Palam later in the evening.
