Bharatiya Janata Party leader L K Advani has said the United Progressive Alliance is an example of "how not to run a coalition".

The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance was the best example of how to run a coalition in the era of parties working on a common minimum programme," he said at the launch of a special-edition magazine named Sankalp brought out by Shyama Prasad Mukheree and Pandit Deendayal Trust in New Delhi on Tuesday.

He lauded the efforts of Sardar Vallabhai Patel, who along with his colleague V P Menon, brought more than 500 states under India.

"Only one state of Jammu and Kashmir was left for Pandit Nehru, first prime minister of India and we are still awaiting for its full annexation to the Indian Union," he said.

He predicted that though he himself felt that the elections would be held in 2009 as per schedule, but the developments in the last couple of weeks had convinced him that the elections may be held earlier than expected.

N Venkaiah Naidu regaled the audience by spelling out names of a number of important politicians and other dignitaries, which have Ram as part of their name.

"Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi's own mentor was M G Rama-chandran. Now we have Sita-ram Yechuri in CPI-M. This should make Karunanidhi see reason behind Ram Sethu, instead of questioning the very existence of Ram," he added.

Discussing Karnataka, he said all BJP MPs planned to meet the prime minister and then the president, seeking help to form government in Karnataka.

"We have given affidavits and got individual signatures verified. The Governor is playing into Congress's hands," Naidu said.
