In an acid attack, a 25-year-old woman received serious burns on her face and has been admitted to the SMHS hospital in Srinagar for treatment.

In swift action, the police arrested the perpetrator of the barbaric act identified as Riyaz Ahmad.

The acid attack, a rarity in Kashmir Valley, has shockingly taken place in the posh uptown locality of Barzalla.

A senior police officer said the accused threw a bottle containing acid at the victim in a lane in the Barzalla locality where scores of coaching centres are located.

The lanes and the by-lanes of the locality are abuzz with teeming students.

The victim was immediately taken to SMHS hospital for treatment.

Police immediately swung into action and arrested the accused. The motive for the attack is not yet known.
