Nationalist Congress Party member of Legislative Assembly Dilip Wagh and his personal assistant Mahesh Mali, arrested on charges of rape, were on Sunday remanded in police custody till March 3 by a local court.

Wagh and Mali alias Bunty were produced before the magistrate's court this afternoon amid tight security and judge A S Nalge sent them to police custody.

While Wagh, representing Pachora in neighbouring Jalgaon district, was arrested on Saturday from Mumbai, Mali was held by the Nashik police on Sunday.

A 20-year-old girl from Pathardi, Ahmednagar district, had alleged that Wagh and Mali called her to Nashik, promising to give her a job, and raped her on February 21 at the government guesthouse in Nashik.

She lodged the FIR on February 25, following which, the NCP suspended Wagh.
