Aam Admi Party leader Kumar Vishwas has been booked for allegedly hurting religious sentiments through his remarks in some videos available online.
The case against Vishwas was filed by R P Mishra, general secretary of Sri Ram Janmabhoomi Sewa Samiti, for allegedly hurting religious sentiments by making remarks against Karbala martyrs and some Hindu deities, police said in Lucknow on Monday
"The FIR under Sections 295, 295 (a) (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion) of the IPC was registered last night at the Mahanagar police station. We are probing the charges," a senior police officials said.
Mishra has alleged that Vishwas, the poet-turned-AAP leader, in some videos had made remarks that hurt religious sentiments of Hindus and Muslims, police said, adding it would go through the videos to probe the charges.
Vishwas will be contesting the Lok Sabha elections from Amethi against Congress vice president and sitting MP Rahul Gandhi.
