Students of the Kashmir University on Tuesday raised slogans supporting Kanhaiya Kumar during a signature campaign held to back the Jawaharlal Nehru University students, who have been protesting over the arrest of students' union president on charges of sedition.

The students, who participated in the campaign, raised slogans such as "tum kitne Kanhaiya pakdoge, har ghar se Kanhaiya nikalega (How many will you arrest, each home shall bring forth a Kanhaiya)" and "hum chahate azaadi (We want freedom)".

The Delhi High Court earlier in the day sought a status report on Kanhaiya's bail plea as the hearing is set to resume on Wednesday.

The High Court has sought the status report from the Delhi Police, which mentions eyewitness' statements, Kanhaiya's presence and video footage against him.

The Delhi Police had earlier written to Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung, saying they have no confidence in the lawyers appointed by the state government and suggested four new names, including Additional Solicitor General Tushar Mehta.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has agreed to consider plea for contempt action against three lawyers allegedly caught on camera boasting that they beat up Kanhaiya in police lock-up.

The police had issued notices to lawyers Vikram Singh Chauhan, Yashpal Singh and Om Sharma to join investigation in connection with the violence in Patiala House court complex on February 15 and 17 in which JNU students, teachers and journalists were attacked.
