SGPC angry over Jain reference to Sikhs as 'separatists'The Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee has taken strong exception to the reference to Sikhs as 'separatists' in the Jain Commission interim report. In a resolution unanimously adopted at its general house meeting at the Golden Temple complex in Amritsar, the SGPC said the reference was highly objectionable and had hurt the sentiments of the Sikh community. The resolution, which was read out in the presence of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, demanded that the word 'separatist' be deleted since this cast doubt on the integrity and patriotism of Sikhs who had suffered after the assassination of then prime minster Indira Gandhi. The resolution, read out by Gurcharan Singh Tohra after his re-election as SGPC president for another annual term, said that to dub the Sikh community as separatist was mischievous since Sikhs had always been loyal to the country. |
