President remits remaining sentence of Akali Takht jathedar

President K R Narayanan has granted remission of the remaining sentence of Akal Takht jathedar Bhai Ranjit Singh, accepting the petition submitted on his behalf by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee.

A communique released on Saturday said that, taking into the consideration various aspects of the case, the President was pleased to commute the sentence.

The home ministry communication said while remitting the sentence, the President took into consideration various aspects of the case, including Bhai Ranjit Singh's conduct in jail and when out on bail.
