Asia's first air university at HyderabadAsia's first air university will come up at the Indian Airlines's Central Training Establishment in Hyderabad. The university, which is expected to start functioning early next year, will offer academic and practical training on various aspects of aviation, including flying and inflight procedures. It will function either as an autonomous body or will be affiliated to one of the universities in the city for the propose of awarding degrees and diplomas to successful candidates. The project modalities are being worked by Calcutta-based Lovelock Lewesat which has already submitted a draft report to IA after conducting a study. According to Central Training Establishment chief executive and IA Director (training), Captain M V V Rao, a committee would go through the draft report before finalising it. The Calcutta firm has also been asked to suggest ways to convert the CTE into an independent profit centre. The CTE has been offering training to pilots/ commanders of international and domestic private airlines, besides the IA. Captain Rao said the CTE was planning to acquire a simulator for a newer version of Boeing 737. This would enable the CTE to train pilots of various international and domestic private airlines. Presently, 10 pilots are undergoing training for Boeing endorsement (to fly Boeing 737 aircraft) as private candidates. The CTE is already equipped with four latest generation six-axis simulators -- two of Airbus A320 and one each of Airbus A300 and Boeing 737-- which enable detailed and high quality training in inflight procedure apart from achieving fuel economy.
