The Telangana Rashtra Samithi has a major challenge ahead of it as it prepares to form the first government in Telangana. With K Chandrasekhar Rao all set to take over as the first chief minister of Telangana, his son K T Rama Rao or KTR as he is popularly known, who is also an member of Legislative Assembly of the TRS says they will live up to the expectations of the people.
In this interview with Vicky Nanjappa/Rediff.com, KTR speaks about the plans while adding that the state government is capable of managing law and order in Hyderabad and there is no need for Central interference.
The elections are over. What next?
We are in governance mode now and the burden of expectation is on us. We have a blueprint on every aspect to run the state. The top priority would be emphasis on investor confidence in Hyderabad city.
What plans does the TRS have for Hyderabad?
First among all would be to elevate the brand image of the city. Hyderabad will be made an international city and we will make all efforts to ensure that global investors spur the growth of the city and in turn the state.
What about rural Telangana?
The development of Hyderabad will result in more employment for the youth from the rural sectors. For the rural areas there is already a blue print for major developmental schemes, irrigation and power.
The people of Telangana have complained about corrupt Seema-Andhra leaders governing them. What are your thoughts?
We will have an inclusive progressive governance module which will zero down on political corruption. The TRS will not tolerate any form of corruption. There will be a transparent, corruption-free progressive and inclusive government in place.
Are you worried that Telugu Desam Party chief Chandrababu Naidu may influence the Central government to make Hyderabad a union territory?
No we are not and that is because this is purely speculative. Naidu himself wants to move out of Hyderabad as soon as he can. As long as he is here he will be out guest and we will take good care of him. He is welcome to stay until the new capital is carved out.
How do you propose to avoid confrontation with New Delhi?
As per the agreement,Hyderabad will be a common capital for 10 years and law and order would be under the control of the Union government. As far as we are concerned law and order is a state subject. As long as we in the state government are handling law and order effectively, no one will have a chance to interfere. We will provide ample confidence and security to everyone in Telangana and from anyone outside in Hyderabad. I do not see it becoming an issue.
