Indicorps Founder Sonal Shah was chosen the India Abroad Person of the Year 2003 at a glittering event at the Waldorf Astoria hotel in New York City on December 12.

Also awarded, for the year 2002, was Iowa State Assemblywoman Swati Dandekar.

The event was graced by Minister of State for External Affairs Digvijay Singh, New York Senator Hillary Clinton, Ambassador to the United States Lalit Mansingh, Permanent Representative to the United Nations Vijay K Nambiar and Republican Party leader Bobby Jindal among many other luminaries.

Sonal Shah was selected by an independent nine-member jury, who sifted through 186 names received from readers of India Abroad, the largest selling Indian-American newspaper in the US, and online via rediff.com, which owns India Abroad.
