Documentary to be made on Mahasweta DeviA film, Hazaar Chaurasi ki Ma, was based on writer Mahasweta Devi's short story. Now one man is making a film based on her life story. The documentary on the Jnanpith and Magsaysay award winner is to be made by director of national children's film award winner Raja Sen. The 50-minute film will concentrate on Mahasweta Devi's work with the Shabar tribals, whose upliftment she has worked on for the last decade. The Magsaysay award winner had begun working first with the Lodhas but later took up the cause of the Keria-Shabars, among the most backward tribal groups in West Bengal. Sen's film hopes to cover the rise of the writer and social activist from the middle classes, touching lightly on her personal life and her separation from her husband. The film will also include clips of the author visiting backward areas in Bihar and Orissa. Raja Sen had earlier directed Damu, the award-winning documentary film.
