Monsoon shortfall persists as rainfall falls 19% below normal

India has recorded an 18.87 percent rainfall deficit between June 1 and July 22, with actual rainfall at 293.3 mm against the normal 361.5 mm.

Twenty meteorological subdivisions reported deficient rainfall, while 16 recorded normal rainfall.

The sharpest deficits were seen in Arunachal Pradesh, Saurashtra and Kutch, and Punjab.
