The Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to Nihon Hidankyo, a Japanese organization of atomic bomb survivors, on Friday for its activism against nuclear weapons, reports Associated Press.

Jorgen Watne Frydnes, chair of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, said the award was given as the "taboo surrounding the use of nuclear weapons' was being challenged, the news agency reported.
