To provide pop-culture buffs an international platform to showcase their fandom, Comic Con India today announced a nation-wide costume play contest, the winner of which will represent India at Chicago Comics and Entertainment Expo to be held on later this year.

Cosplay is a practice where comic fans dress up as their favourite characters from the world of pop culture -- comics, television, films or video games.

According to the organisers, the 'Indian Championships of Cosplay' seeks to encourage local cosplayers to go professional while providing them an international platform as well.

The event will see the best cosplayers from across the country battle it out, with the grand prize winners of Cosplay contest of Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Delhi and Mumbai Comic Cons 2016 competing against each other.

The final leg of the Championship will be held on February 12, 2017, between 12 noon and 8 pm at Ansal Plaza in New Delhi at a gala event that will also have live performances by popular band 'Classic Collective' and DJ Nisheeth Rao.
