President Barack Obama will travel to Dallas today where he will address an interfaith service in memory of five police officers shot dead in a sniper attack during a protest decrying police shootings of black men.

"At the invitation of Dallas Mayor, Obama will deliver remarks at an interfaith memorial service with the families of the fallen police officers and members of the Dallas community whose unity is reflective of who we are as Americans," the White House has said.

Obama will also meet privately with the families of the five slain police officers and those wounded to express the nation's support and gratitude for their service and sacrifice, it said.

The memorial service would also be attended by Vice President Joe Biden and former President George W Bush and his wife Laura.
