From neatly-cut and well-fitted bandhgala suits to his trademark half-sleeved kurta and brightly coloured Nehru jackets, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is always known for his excellent sartorial tastes.

Except, may be this one time, yesterday.

Modi was spotted in a kurta-pyjama, Nehru vest and a bright red stole when he received President Barack Obama at Delhi's Palam airport on Sunday morning.

Later, at the Rashtrapati Bhavan ceremonial welcome accorded to Obama, Modi was seen wearing a pinstripe 'bandhgala' suit.

The suit, however, wasn't just a bandhgala. The pin stripes in fact had his name, 'Narendra Damodardas Modi' woven into the fabric. (See picture. Click on the picture for a large image.)

For the evening banquet, Modi opted for a bandhgala again but this time grey in colour.

At the banquet hosted by President Pranab Mukherjee, Obama raised a toast to India and the PM saying he had wanted to wear a 'Modi kurta'.

Obama recalled a headline back home which asked who is the new fashion icon other than Michelle Obama and said "I was thinking of wearing a Modi kurta myself.' He appreciated Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying "he is tough and has a style."
