Voters will prevail despite bandh: Meghalaya CEC

February 21, 2013  13:38
Archana Masih reports: Rediff.com spoke to Meghalaya Chief Election Commissioner P Naik about the Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council's call for a 36-hour bandh from Friday evening to Sunday morning -- that will effectively be a poll boycott since the state goes to the polls on Saturday. Naik told Rediff.com that in spite of the HNLC's bandh call, he is confident people will defy the bandh and come out in large numbers to vote. The state government, Naik added, is making adequate arrangements to see the peaceful completion of the polls.
