Support for Sri Lankan Tamils is muted

January 31, 2009
Muthukumar gave up his life for the Tamils in Sri Lanka. The support for the Sri Lankan Tamils has remained muted in Tamil Nadu, since the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam. Muthukumar's death has brought the simmering issue back to the forefront.

At the funeral procession, slogans were raised against the Sri Lankan president and the United Progressive Alliance government.

The angry protestors also burnt a photograph of Congress president Sonia Gandhi while the policemen chose to look away.
