He was rushed to the Kilpauk government hospital. Before succumbing to his injuries, he told the police that he lived with his sister Tamilarasi in Kollathur, a far flung Chennai suburb.
Muthukumar's father owns an old iron scrap shop in Tambaram.
The funeral, which was scheduled to be held on January 30, was postponed because of the numerous visitors who wanted to pay their last respects to Muthukumar.
On Saturday afternoon, his funeral procession started from Kollathur, and wound its way to the cemetery in Mulokothalam.
