At least two persons were killed and over 10 injured when suspected ULFA militants triggered a blast at a market area near the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) headquarters at Maligaon at around 6:30pm on Friday.

Police informed that the bomb was planted by ULFA militants on bi-cycles that was positioned between two cars along the road near the market. Both the cars – a Maruti WagonR and a Santro – were badly damaged in the blast.

The impact of the blast would have been much bigger had the two cars not taken the impact of the explosion. The injured were rushed to nearby private hospitals as well as Guwahati Medical College Hospital (GMCH). The death toll may go up as condition of some of the injured were stated to be serious.
