Bhartiya Janata Party leaders are trying to sort out the differences between the party's prime ministerial candidate L K Advani and former vice president Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, which cropped up after the latter declared his intentions of returning to active politics.
"As far as the BJP is concerned, L K Advani is our candidate for the post of the prime minister," party president Rajnath Singh told mediapersons during an informal chat in New Delhi on Wednesday.
Shekhawat had upset the BJP's top brass on Tuesday by refusing to endorse Advani as the party's PM designate. BJP leaders are worried that 85-year-old Shekhawat might be an aspirant for the PM's post.
"I have not yet made a final decision. But one thing is sure; I am contesting the Lok Sabha elections," the former VP had stated.
Shekahwat had claimed that his supporters, who hail from the Rajput community, were urging him to return to electoral politics.
But BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi dismissed speculations about dissent brewing within BJP's top brass, saying, "The differences between Advani and Shekhawat will be sorted out".
