Without naming Pakistan, United Progressive Alliance chairperson Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday said that India's neighbours wanted to weaken the country, but they were not aware that India can give them a befitting reply. Sonia was addressing a public rally in Silvassa, the capital of union territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli.

"India's identity in the world is that people of various religions and communities live here in harmony. Our neighbours want to weaken our strength and destroy unity and brotherhood," Gandhi said.

Noting that terrorism was a big challenge before the country, the Congress president, who virtually launched her party's poll campaign in the union territory, said, "We will defeat terrorism."

Gandhi also dwelled on various initiatives taken by the UPA government like the Rs 71,000 crore loan waiver for farmers, National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, Indo-US civilian nuclear deal and the recent decision to cut diesel, petrol and LPG prices.
