Bihar's fast-track justice
October 13, 2008
According to official figures, about 9,063 criminals had been convicted and sentenced till September 2008. Last year, 9,853 criminals were convicted and sentenced.
In 2006, only 6,839 criminals had been convicted and sentenced by the fast courts in the state.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has sought to expedite the trial process after coming to power in November 2005 to rid the state of its 'lawless' tag.
