The scene outside JJ Morgue in south Mumbai summed up the travesty that had struck India's financial capital. Anxious family members have been pouring in since early Thursday morning to find out about their near and dear one, who fell prey to terrorists' bullets.
Chaos ruled supreme as families ran from pillar-to-post to trace their relatives' antecedents. The fact that cases have been registered in different police stations has added to the confusion.
S Raman, who has been searching for his friend SR Bhonsle who works in the Oberoi Hotel, says: "Since morning, I have been running from St George Hospital to another. I have not been able to trace my friend yet. No one wants to take the responsibility and release the bodies."
Mumbai's business district turns into a war zone
Maniben Solanki, who has been searching for her nephew Lala, said: "He was having some snacks near the Cama Hospital when the terrorists attacked. I have been searching for him since 6 AM. I don't know what to do."
Meanwhile, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil said a compensation of Rs 5 lakh will be given to the kin of those killed in the terror attacks. Rs 50,000 will be paid to the seriously injured.
