What is in a name? Some may ask, but Karnataka's Chief Minister-in-waiting B S Yeddyurappa will say there is lot. Because he was B S Yediyurappa sometime back. It was the name change that made him click -- at least that is what he thinks.

The BJP had joined hands with the JD(S) to form the government in Karnataka. After 20 months, it was the turn of the JD(S) to hand over power to the BJP. But on October 3 2007, the JD(S) played truant and refused to keep up its promise, thus denying Yeddyurappa a chance to become the chief minister.
On October 11 2007, an astrologer advised the BJP leader to change his name from Yediyurappa to Yeddyurappa. He even notified the change in name through an affidavit and also in newspapers. After a lull for 10 days, things began to change for Yeddyurappa. On November 12, the name change had finally paid off and he took over the reigns of Karnataka. However, seven days later he was pulled down by the JD(S) and his name got permanently attached in the history books for being the shortest serving chief minister in Karnataka.
Sources close to Yeddyurappa told rediff.com that once this fiasco took place, he did consult several astrologers.
He was told to retain his name as luck would shine upon him once again. Initially Yeddyurappa was upset that the name change did not work in his favour, but astrologers and the pundits managed to convince that it would finally work.
And it did. Though his aides would not like to attribute the fortunes completely to the name change, they do maintain that the stars have started smiling on him name because of the name.
