Ted Strickland: The current Democratic governor of Ohio, Strickland offers two must-haves for Senator Obama: a moderate presence and the support of a swing state. While Obama polls exceptionally well with minorities, the youth, and 'university liberals', he's missing support from one key Democratic demographic -- the blue-collar white worker.
Strickland, a former US Congressman from the rural Southeast area of Ohio, has an impeccable record with socially conservative democrats. Even the National Rifle Association has assigned him an 'A' rating for his pro-gun stance on gun control (they've given Obama an 'F', the worst possible). Finally, Ohio is a traditionally important state in the Presidential election, almost always falling to the eventual winner.
For those who need a reminder, check the 2004 election, where Bush's close (and controversial) win in Ohio propelled him to a second term. While Strickland has been a staunch Hillary supporter in the past, it's difficult to imagine him passing up the opportunity of a lifetime, should Barack offer it.
