Balagokulam, a quarterly magazine published by the Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh, has launched its 2008 edition of the Kaun Banega Ramayana Expert, a quiz that tests children on their knowledge of the Hindu epic.
The nationwide quiz will run April through June, the HSS said, and is focused on making the Ramayana an integral part of a child's early learning. The inaugural contest was held in 2006.
This year's contest was launched April 6 and will be conducted at regional levels. A winner will be picked from each region, on the basis of online and in-person written and oral contests. The winners will be announced mid-June. Contestants can take the online exam at the KBRE Web site (https://www.balagokulam.org/contest) till June 15.
Over 100 Balagokulam centres across the US will then host the second phase of the contest. Participants are placed in age-based categories ranging from 5 to 15, and the syllabus and questions increase in complexity to suit the age group. Local Hindu temples and community organisations are expected to sponsor regional editions of the quiz.
