Ajoy Bose, Mayawati's biographer, traced the Bahujan Samaj Party leader's tough journey from discrimination to being a likely prime minister in the first part of an exclusive interview, which we published on Wednesday.
Have you read Part I of the interview? Do you know what Mayawati is really like
In the second part of his interview to Managing Editor Sheela Bhatt, Bose speaks about the hypocrisy of others who point fingers at her for her imperious working style and why her voters like her diamonds and silks.
Do you find a difference between the real Mayawati and her perception in urban people's mind?
I remember once I was attending her press conference and one journalist told me, 'Oh God, we will have to accept tea. Don't know if she washes the tea cups or not!' We were looking at that kind of prejudice against her.
Today, it's different. Today it's shock and awe. We have a habit of running down leaders or building them up, now it's the opposite. The media and others are building her up, now.
