Resident doctors of All India Institute of Medical Sciences backing ousted institute Director Dr P Venugopal on Thursday welcomed the Supreme Court judgment striking down a law to ease him out and demanded the resignation of Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss.
"This is a victory of truth. It is a victory of the people of the country. Ramadoss is responsible for the entire fiasco and he should resign," said Kaushal Kant Mishra, spokesperson for the Resident Doctors Association.
RDA president Kumar Harsh termed the apex court's order as a 'vital judgment' and said it was time for celebration at the premier health institute.
'Our faith in judiciary is getting stronger. It is time to salute the Supreme Court. It is a vital judgment. It is time for celebration,' Harsh said.
Venugopal had challenged an amendment to the AIIMS Act that fixed the upper age of retirement of Director at 65 years, a step that forced him to relinquish office.
An apex court bench of Justices Tarun Chatterjee and H S Bedi upheld the appeal filed by Venugopal challenging the impugned law as being discriminatory and malafidely brought to superannuate him.
