Two Indians and 12 Pakistanis have been arrested by Spanish police, which claims to have smashed a suspected Islamic terrorist cell that was plotting an attack in the northeastern city of Barcelona.

Spain's interior minister Alfredo Perez Rubalcaba announced the arrests at a news conference in Madrid. He, however, did not give the names of those arrested in the overnight raids in Barcelona.

According to reports, the police have also recovered bomb-making material during the raids.

Rubalcaba characterised the arrested suspected militants as 'highly organised radical Islamists' and added that there was a possibility of some of the 14 arrested being innocent.

Spain's leading daily El Pais also reported on its website that Spanish authorities have warned France, Portugal and Britain of the possibility of attacks on Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf during his visit to Europe next week.
