"Dr Singh will reach Arunachal Pradesh on the evening of January 30 and will return to Delhi the next day," Dr Sunjay Baru, information advisor to the Prime Minister, told rediff.com on Thursday evening. However, the details of Dr Singh's visit are still being worked out.
After H D Deve Gowda's visit to Arunachal Pradesh in 1996, Dr Sigh will be the first prime minister to visit the state.
Kiren Rijiju, Bhartiya Janata Party's Member of Parliament, who expressed his concern about the alleged Chinese intrusion in Tawang district in Arunachal Pradesh, said that the BJP unit in the state will submit a memorandum to Dr Singh to highlight the various demands of the people of the border state.
"I would be visiting Tawang during that time. But there is no question of showing any disrespect to Dr Singh, as an individual and as prime minister of the country, by doing something that may affect India's image," he said.
During the BJP-led national Democratic Alliance's regime, then deputy prime minister L K Advani made three trips to Arunachal Pradesh, but then prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee never visited the state.
