Aeschbacher and his partner Chitra Subramaniam-Duella, the journalist who exposed the Bofors scandal, worked with experts in India and Switzerland to bring together what they call "two areas of excellence." Aeschbacher who hails from Fleurier in the heart of Swiss watch land has a background in finance and banking. Subramaniam-Duella who has worked in the media and business space has spent several years in Neuchâtel, also the nerve center of Switzerland’s watch-making industry.
The watch has been designed by one of Switzerland's best-known designers. The premium watches will be introduced in the market as the Panchang Line. The line will include mechanical and quartz watches. Other watches that have been developed by the company incorporating aspects of the Panchang include a chronograph and a tourbillon.
Industry experts say the Panchang Line is unique in that it does not "create a need" or promote a lifestyle, or a sport. Rather, it caters to an existing need, something that no Swiss watch has attempted to date.
The notion of time has been a subject of fascination and debate for mankind. Historically, calendars have been adjusted not only to accommodate planetary movements and seasons, but also to underscore beliefs and traditions. "Our research covered the science, the sense and sensibilities, the logic as well as various interpretations that the Panchang offers," said Aeschbacher. "For us, this watch is a contribution from one of the world's oldest calendars, the Panchang, to the global understanding of time," he added
Aeschbacher and Subramaniam-Duella say interest in the product has been overwhelming with individuals and distributors from all over the world keen to buy the first collection. "We hope we will be able to meet the demand -- after all, this is the first Swiss watch that invites you to wait," said Aeschbacher. A limited numbered edition will hit the markets soon.
