Director General of Police, Karnataka, K Srinivasan on Thursday said that IT companies in Bengaluru should do a proper background check before recruiting people into their companies.
The DG was addressing a press conference in the backdrop of the various arrests made in Karnataka in connection with the Karnataka terror plot.
The reference to IT companies and the recruitments were made in the event of the arrest of Yahya Khan, the Students Islamic Movement of India president of the Karnataka unit, who incidentally happens to be a software engineer.
There were also reports that Khan had recruited several persons from the IT sector to join his network in creating terror.
Srinivasan also said that the IT companies should do a thorough background check and keep a close watch on whom they were hiring.
Regarding the various organisations which are being floated under the guise of working towards the upliftment of the youth, the state police chief said that surveillance was being kept on such organisations.
We are monitoring the activities closely, he said. He, however, refused to spell out the name of any such organisation as it would hamper the investigation process.
Srinivasan said that the police had not held any meeting with the heads of IT companies to discuss the issue. He did not specify whether a meeting regarding this issue would be held in the future or not.
Further, the DG denied a report stating that a tab was being kept on Muslim students in educational institutions.
He said that no such surveillance was being kept on educational institutions and Muslim students.
Meanwhile, the judicial custody of the two suspected Lashkar-e-Tayiba operatives Riyazzuddin Nasir and Asadulla Abubaker who were arrested in the north of Karnataka recently has been extended till March 13.
Nasir, a cook, and Asadulla, a medical student, were picked up on charges of car theft initially.
However, investigations revealed later that they had plans of carrying out several terrorist strikes in both Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.
Nasir has also been linked to the Hyderabad twin blasts, which took place on August 25, 2007.
