"We must not do anything which further aggravates the situation in the state, particularly the valley," Bardhan told rediff.com in a conversation on Thursday morning.
Bardhan blamed former governor Lt General S K Sinha for taking steps which resulted in the widespread violence in the state.
"He (Sinha) is solely to be blame," Bardhan said a day after the all-party meeting called by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday.
"Though I would not go into the details, let me tell you that Dr Singh in no uncertain terms said that there is a need to bring an end to the economic blockade (in Jammu) forthwith," Bardhan said.
National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah warned that the developments in Jammu and Kashmir would have a fallout in the rest of India.
Bharatiya Janata Party president Rajnath Singh, Jaswant Singh and Arun Jaitley spoke on behalf of their party but the absence of L K Advani was noticed by all those who attended the all-party meet.
