Bharatiya Janshakti Party leader Uma Bharti on Wednesday created a flutter outside Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's residence in New Delhi demanding entry into the all-party meeting on the Amarnath issue.
She was later taken into police custody.
Just minutes before the meeting was to begin, the former Madhya Pradesh chief minister and some of her associates attempted to storm into the official Race Course residence of the prime minister for participating in it. She was not an invitee to the meeting.
They staged a sit-in at the main gate despite police warning them to vacate the place. Bharti and her associates were immediately taken into custody and taken away to a nearby Chanakyapuri police station.
Bharti, who arrived in her car, surprised the elite special protection group personnel by trying to cross the security barrier by trying to get under it at the exit gate.
Media personnel, who were camping outside the venue of the all-party meet, promptly rushed towards Bharti.
An additional posse of policemen soon arrived as the incident finished.
With tensions flaring up in Jammu as well as Kashmir, Dr Singh has convened an all-party meeting at his residence to work out a consensus formula to ease tension in the state.
