Peeved over the delay in the Bharatiya Janata Party striking a seat-sharing arrangement with it for next month's Karnataka assembly elections, the Janata Dal-United on Friday released the first list of 24 candidates even as the saffron party said the tie-up was expected to be finalised in a day or two.

JD-U's state unit president B Somashekhar and its former MLA J C Madhuswamy were among the prominent persons to find place in the list.

The list includes five SC, four ST, three OBC and three minority candidates, JD-U national general secretary Shambhu Shrivastwa, who is in charge of Karnataka, said in a release in Bengaluru.

Shrivastwa was in Bengaluru early this week to finalise the seat sharing agreement with the BJP, but his efforts failed.

JD-U has named its candidates in at least 18 constituencies where the BJP has already finalised its candidates.

Meanwhile, BJP's state unit president D V Sadananda Gowda said the tie-up with the JD-U was expected to be finalised in a day or two.

BJP sources said the saffron party was offering eight to 10 seats to the JD-U, which is not acceptable to the Sharad Yadav outfit.

The JD-U has been demanding that it be given at least 25 seats as allotted in the 2004 elections.
