Preparations for presidential elections are on in full swing in Pakistan, with the ruling Pakistan Muslim League going all out to urge voters to re-elect President Pervez Musharraf for a second term. The PML plans to start a large-scale campaign across the country from September 27.
Hoardings of the president, along with banners and slogans, will be displayed in front of the Parliament House in Islamabad, said PML sources.
Posters of General Musharraf will be put up in cities, towns and villages across the country. PML leaders will also organise seminars and public meetings to convince the public to vote for the president.
They ruling party's leaders are also planning to hold large-scale interviews and participate in TV talk shows to elaborate on the government's performance and achievements.
Reiterating their confidence in the re-election of General Musharraf, PML Punjab Secretary General Chaudhry Zaheeruddin said that the president will be re-elected unopposed and take oath as a civilian, strengthening democratic values in the country.
The Opposition should also support General Musharraf for the sake of national interest, Zaheeruddin added. The Opposition parties have threatened to resign en-masse if Musharraf seeks re-election in uniform.
After Musharraf files his nomination papers, national and provincial assemblies' meetings will be organised to convince the legislators to vote for him.
