Senior congress leader Janardhan Dewedi wrote a letter to the leaders to desist from making any statement on the Ram affidavit issue as the party treated the matter to be closed.
But there were few takers in the party who were willing to toe the official line.
Union Minister for Culture and Tourism Ambika Soni, who met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for 15 minutes in the morning to explain her stand and show all the relevant document, felt she had done her job and it was now for Dr Singh and the Congress president to take a decision.
She was visibly upset the manner in which a sinister campaign was launched against her while she was on tour to Japan when three senior leaders of the party felt she should tender her resignation. "I had done my job with integrity but I think something more is needed," she said.
Some of those who she brushed the wrong way felt that it was time that she got back what she did to others. There are few takers for her in the organisation. If Gandhi reaffirms her faith in Soni she could regain lost ground quickly otherwise she would have to wait for long if she is asked to put in her papers.
Incidentally, she refused to go to the United States to participate in 'Incredible India' festival meant to highlight tourism spots in the country on the 60 years of India's independence.
