Indians being victimised abroad is not a new subject. So much has been said about this issue.

At times one wonders whether all this is just hyped up or really true.

Lord Adam Patel of the Labour Party in Britain was one among the 15 parliamentarians of Indian origin from Europe and North America who participated in an interactive programme on India and the Doha Development in New Delhi.

Speaking to rediff.com on the sidelines of the programme, Lord Patel said there is so much hype that is being created regarding the victimisation of Indians in European countries.

These incidents take place everywhere, but to tell you the truth there is no problem for the Indian community abroad, he said.

Lord Patel, a businessman, was the director of the East Lancashire Training Enterprise Council and Enterprise Pic before he was made a life peer as Baron Patel of Blackburn of Langho in the County of Lanchashire.

He said Indians have nothing to worry about back down in the UK as they are very well represented.

He said there is almost cent per cent representation for the Indians and each one of them was being treated fairly.

Lord Patel said that he is very excited to be in India as there were a host of issues he wished to discuss and also learn.

He said his roots are very much in India as he had studied in Gujarat and Baroda.

Lord Patel said he was astonished in the manner in which India was growing and added, it made him proud that India has become a force to reckon with.

When questioned about the nuclear deal between India and the United States, Lord Patel just smiled.

He said that he did not wish to discuss it as the issue is very touchy.
