No, no. I don't think America helped China develop. The Chinese people don't think so. Mainly the overseas Chinese invested in China. Most Chinese abroad are businessmen. With foreign investment we have built 30,000 km of highways. Previously Shanghai to Beijing took two days but now it takes 12 hours and in future it will take four hours. However for Chinese foreign policy, relations with America are the most important. The US thinks like that too. Democrats and Republicans both think that China is a stakeholder in international relations. Hu Jinatao during his last visit to US said that China is not only a stakeholder but a constructive partner of the US. In the Cold War there was a triangle of US, USSR and China.

And that time US, Japan and the European Union were forming the economic triangle. Last year I went to the China, India and America Institute in Atlanta. Its director Jagdish Sheth has written a book about new triangle of China, India and America. I think his vision can be discussed after 50 years. Right now I don't think India can be compared with Japan economically. I don't think India and China will surpass Japan and US very soon because we have large populations. In my new book, I have said that both will contribute in development of the world but we have many miles to go. China and US relations are very important so we will never confront the US. China believes that good relations the US, the EU, Russia and Japan are important. We should have harmonious relations with neighbouring countries like Korea and ASEAN countries, India and Pakistan. India is a neighbouring and developing country and we have no reasons to be hostile to India.
